What Moana Teaches You To Living Your Best Life

So have you ever listened to a catchy song so many times, that you find yourself singing along to the lyrics? And then one day you realize what the song is ACTUALLY saying. And you're like...dang, I've been listening to this song this whole time and am just realizing what the words mean.

That happened to me this morning.....with Moana. Hashtag, you know you're a mom to a 2 year old when....

The song is called "Where We Are" and if you've watched just 10 minutes of the movie, you've heard the song. It's one of the opening ones!

Singing along this morning I realized omg, they are actually saying:

There comes a day where you've got to look around & realize happiness is where you are...

My husband has a tattoo that says "content" on his bicep. And it is his reminder to be content in all seasons, in all things.

I was reading my devotional last night and it was talking about JOY. And how joy is a characteristic of life with the Holy Spirit! As it goes in

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control..."

It is the 2nd one listed, but how often is it missed? Do we lead lives full of JOY and excitement and contentment? Or are we bogged down by the worries of the world, stressed out af with our bills, kids & exams?

Last week I had a whooole day where I felt like crap nuggets because I literally spent the whole morning between Instagram and Facebook. I follow a lot of fitness/makeup blogs - so a lot of pretty, thin, dressed up tan girls that I look NOTHING like. Aha. And it started to really weigh on me and I felt so UGLY.

Literally, felt like the ugliest human on planet earth. And then came a wave of self-pity. And of course, the voice of self-loathing: you're not good enough. you'll never be good enough. no body likes you.

Then that weekend I had a transformational day where I saw this movie of people just being who they are, in their natural state - and they were so...themselves, powerful, strong, beautiful, kind, amazing. And it helped me change the way that I see myself.

And I started on this journey of learning to love how to wear my natural hair again. Learning to love these big brown eyes that I was born with. And learning to love the body/shape I'm in.

It's hard when you see all these Insta-babes who waltz around in their crop tops, and mini skirts with long beach waves. And you realize that you look nooothing like that. But I used to think its because I wasn't AS good as them.

Now I'm trying to reframe my mind NOT to compare to them. They are not any better than me, nor I to them. We are each bold, beautiful, unique and special in our OWN way.

So I'm learning how to love myself. And be content in the now.

I saw this so clearly when my husband was just complaining his socks off one morning about all the things going wrong in our life right now. And, trying to be the light at the end of the tunnel, I just tried to combat everything he said with something positive.

That's when I realized - it really is ALL how you look at it.

You can focus on what is going wrong, and you will be sad, depressed and always feel like you are missing out on something.

OR you can choose to focus on the GOOD right now, and give thanks for that. When I start to think like this it instantly lifts my mood. The Bible goes on to prove this by saying:

"If you are cheerful, you feel good; if you are sad, you hurt all over." Proverbs 17:22 (CEV)

I LOVE how practical God can be. That's how you know his word endures foreva, and eva and eva. Because it is true today, yesterday, and tomorrow. If this was something that was important enough to mention in Scripture some 2000 years ago, how much more practical is it today - with all the distractions we are faced with on a constant basis?

So like the song suggests - that I've been listening to this whole time - but never took a hold of:

"There comes a day where you've got to look around & realize happiness is where you are..."

Is today the day that you are going to boldly stand up and declare:

"HEY, I believe that I am standing in my happiest moment. Right now. Today, happiness is exactly WHERE I AM."

Instead of waiting for that promotion, that boy to text you back, your hair to grow back from your last herendeous haircut. Love the NOW.

Does everything perfect? No. Even if you may be in one of the toughest seasons in your life (which trust me - I literally JUST was) there is always, always, ALWAYS a silver lining.

It is possible to become completely joyful, excited and THANKFUL for where you are today - all while better yourself. It's not an either or, it's a both & MORE.

IF you're alive today, realize that today can be the BEST DAY of your life - just by choosing to accept and really BELIEVE that today happiness is EXACTLY where you are.

Right now.

Be blessed & stay beautiful!

Your reminder today:

"Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live."

1 Thess. 5:18 (MSG)
